What Is the Amazon Main Image?

The main image is the primary product photo that appears as your listing thumbnail in search results and at the top of your product detail page. It's the most visible and most regulated image in your listing.

Sellers launch listings with non-compliant main images and don't discover the issue until a compliance review suppresses their listing — sometimes during a critical sales period.

Main Image Requirements Checklist

Background:

• Pure white background — RGB 255,255,255
• No gradients, shadows, or colored backgrounds
• No watermarks or borders

Product:

• Product occupies 85% or more of the image frame
• Product is fully visible — no cropping (category exceptions apply)
• Product accurately represents what is being sold

Restrictions:

• No text overlays
• No logos or brand watermarks on the image
• No props or additional objects (most categories)
• No models (clothing and footwear are exceptions)

Technical:

• Minimum 1000px on longest side
• 2000px+ recommended for zoom
• JPEG, PNG, GIF, or TIFF format
• sRGB colorspace

Category Exceptions

Clothing and footwear may show models. Jewelry may show the piece on a body part. Shoes may show only the shoe.
